Including the ADC.? In fact, especially the ADC since the "D" in their name stands for "Democratic" and it makes a lot of other good Democrats who file their reports as required look bad when "Democratic" organizations fail to follow the law.? Heck, ADC leader Dr. Joe Reed is such a stickler for the law that I'm sure he'll be every bit as interested in correcting this apparent transgression as he is in contesting the new ban on PAC to PAC money transfers. This is not rocket science, folks.? Keep track of contributions, expenses, and loans and file the damned forms at the clearly specified intervals.? Brian Lyman of the Montgomery Advertiser has pointed out that the ADC has not filed a campaign finance report since 2008.? We called attention to that fact back in June of 2010 and again a few months ago. Now, I'm reading the comments elsewhere and hearing essentially, "What do you expect from ADC?? This is why people who gave a damn formed Alabama New South Coalition years ago."? Possibly, even probably, true.? But I would just point out that Alabama New South Coalition doesn't appear to have filed any campaign finance reports with the Secretary of State's office since 1999. After the 2010 primary I emailed the contact on ANSC's website to ask about this failure to file.? Crickets.? I also phoned the SoS office to see if there was another ANSC listing ... they couldn't find one. Get with the program folks, get your act together and follow the damned law.? Stop embarrassing your friends.? Did I mention that this does not require a degree in rocket science? |
mooncat :: EVERYBODY Needs to Follow the @%* Campaign Finance Laws! |
we're both on the warpath tonight!? :-)
I remember that we spent hours going through the Alabama SOS Web site trying to find these financial disclosure forms a year ago and nobody seemed to think it was a problem.
Now, the ADC finds itself "hoist on it's own petard" and unfortunately the ADP (important difference, that last initial) will probably be hurt more by the failure than the ADC will be.
Never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way. ?- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Is that we heard from several campaign staffers that some of these organizations were essentially extorting "contributions" from candidates -- large contributions -- in exchange for allowing those candidates to speak at their meetings, which is a prerequisite for obtaining the "endorsement" of said organizations.?
Tried to check the ADC/ANSC records to see who had paid and how much ... surprise!? There were no records.? Of course, all the candidates duly filed their reports and reflected the "contributions."
Work harder and work smarter!
"Get your sh*it together, get mad, and get attention.
I'm done trying to present a rational argument.? The longer it is the more opportunity someone up top to fark it up.? Maybe simple caveman speak will be easier to process.
Seriously, it's time to take the more effective tactics to heart and fight fire with fire-- only you'll have a party that you can be proud to support at the end of the day.? You can feel pride knowing that you're real and not some astroturf puppet.
