Dollar rises as hope fades for Europe crisis fix (AP)

NEW YORK ? The dollar is gaining against the euro as investors begin to doubt that European officials will unveil a sweeping plan to help resolve the region's debt crisis.

Hope that a plan was in the works helped the euro gain against the dollar earlier in the week.

With no announcement of a deal from European leaders, the euro has given up some of its gains.

In midday trading Friday, the euro fell to $1.3439 from $1.3559 late Thursday. The dollar rose to 77.15 Japanese yen from 76.71 Japanese yen, to 0.905 Swiss franc from 0.8994 Swiss franc.

Meanwhile, the British pound rose to $1.5625 from $1.5590.
